  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • BBQ pork, Hawaiian beef, or your choice of vegetables/proteins for filling

  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: Add the warm water and vegetable oil to the dry mixture.
  3. Knead the Dough: Knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  4. Let It Rise: Cover and let the dough rise in a warm area until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Shape the Buns: Punch down the dough and divide into small pieces, rolling each into a circle about 4 inches in diameter.
  6. Fill and Seal: Place filling in the center, fold the edges over, and pinch to seal.
  7. Steam the Buns: Line a steamer with parchment, add buns, and steam over boiling water for 15-20 minutes.
  8. Serve Warm: Enjoy immediately or keep warm until serving.

Notes

Check dough consistency and adjust moisture as needed. Use parchment paper in the steamer to prevent sticking.
