A vibrant and flavorful marinara sauce made with fresh ingredients, perfect for pasta, pizza, and more.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh basil leaves, chopped (about 1/4 cup)
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil: In a large skillet or saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat for about 1 minute.
  2. Sauté the garlic: Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, avoiding browning.
  3. Add tomatoes: Pour in the crushed tomatoes along with their juices. Stir well to combine.
  4. Season the sauce: Add oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using) and stir.
  5. Simmer: Bring to a gentle simmer and cook uncovered for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Finish with fresh basil: Stir in the chopped basil once thickened.
  7. Serve or store: Use immediately or cool and store for later.

Notes

Choose quality tomatoes for best flavor. Adjust the sauce consistency by simmering longer if thicker sauce is desired.
